Technical Assignments

 

Technical Report #1:
Structural Concepts & Existing Conditions Report

This first technical report consists of a stuctural overview of the New York Times Building.
The report porvides a detailed decription of the foundation, floor framing, and lateral systems,
as well as
wind, seismic, and gravity analysis of the the structure.

 

Technical Report #2:
Alternative Floor Framing Report

This technical report evaluates the existing and three alternative floor systems for use in New York Times Building.
The alternative systems of intrest were:

- Castellated Composite Steel Beam
- Two-Way Flat Plate
- Two-Way Post-Tensioned Slab w/ Slab Beams

These systems were designed and comparied to the existing composite steel beam system for their feasibility which
which was based upon factors such as system weight, fire rating, cost, constructability, structural depth, and architecural impact.

 

Technical Report #3:
Alternative Lateral System Report

This technical report investigtes three preliminary alternatives the the existing lateral system of the New York Times Building.
The alternative systems of intrest were:

- Modified Braced Frame Core w/ Outriggers on the 36th Level
- Pure Concrete Shear Wall Core
- Concrete Shear Wall Core w/ Outriggers

The alternative investigated in this technical report was that of the Concrete Shear Wall Core with Outrigger system. In order to view a the more indepth study of the Modified Braced Frame System or the Pure Concrete Shear Wall Core, refer to the Technical Reports of Erika Bonfanti and Benjamin Barben respectively.
